Computer Security and Forensics RPMs
Tuesday, December 05, 2006

Recently I decided to teach myself how to build RPMs so that I would have easy installation and removal access to some of my favorite security tools. Since I normally use the current version of Fedora Core (currently 6) and PCLInuxOS (currently 0.93a) I'm only building for those two platforms. I've built everything on unmodified kernels so I don't expect that anyone else should have problems using these RPMs.

So far I've packaged:
  • tcpxtract
  • md5deep
  • ssdeep
  • dcfldd (PCLOS only)
  • cryptcat (FC6 only)
  • ddrescue
  • wipe
I'll start posting each of them with some brief documenation on the Sofware page. Drop me an email if you can think of something else that would be nice to have and isn't too crazy hard.

Interview for CyberSpeak on the New e-Discovery Rules
Sunday, December 03, 2006

I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by Bret Padres of CyberSpeak this morning for his popular podcast on computer forensics, network security and computer crime. Bret and I talked about the December 1, 2006, changes to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure as they apply to e-Discovery (EED) and Electronically Stored Information (ESI). I've posted a summary of the interview in the Computer Security section. I'll link and mirror the podcast once it is available.

It took me forever but I finally updated the Wrestling page with 2006/2007 Howard County Wrestling information. Don't forget to sign-up for Matbash at Damascus, MD, on Saturday, December 9, 2006.

A Couple of FC6 Fixes and the Best Fedora Core Install Guides Ever

I did find a problem during the installation of Fedora Core 6 recently on an extra system I had sitting around. More details are listed in the UNIX section with the fixes.

Also added links to Mauriat Miranda's awesome Fedora Core installation guides.

Updates
Friday, October 27, 2006

I've added new entries to both the Security and Software pages. I'll also be adding new content to the Wrestling and probably some other items over the weekend. Maybe even a few template tweeks.
